Definition: PRINCIPLE 7 - Reward Workers on Their Efficiency, Productivity, and Value
By Tom Onquit
When workers use new AI tools to deliver more work in less time, retrain for new roles and responsibilities, and execute through redesigned processes, they are delivering more value to the organization than their previous role required. That increased value warrants increased reward—not just annual cost-of-living adjustments.
Rewards in the AI era extend beyond base salary increases. They include a spectrum of recognition and compensation mechanisms that match the diversity of what workers are contributing: productivity improvements, quality gains, new skill acquisition, AI output management, and willingness to adapt. Recognizing and rewarding these contributions is both a fairness imperative and a retention strategy.
