Definition: PRINCIPLE 8 - Continual Daily Optimization
By Tom Onquit
Continual Daily Optimization means identifying, sharing, and implementing work improvements on the same day they are discovered—not holding them for a retrospective ceremony scheduled weeks in the future. In the AI era, where teams complete dozens of work cycles per day, a single day of repeated inefficiency represents significant lost output. Optimizations discovered today belong in practice today the next day.
This principle changes the role of retrospectives: rather than being the place where optimizations are discovered, retrospectives become the place where a period of already-implemented optimizations is reviewed, consolidated, and validated. The learning is front-loaded into daily practice; the ceremony is a confirmation of what has already been applied.
