Definition: PRINCIPLE 4 - Be Transparent and Upfront
By Tom Onquit
Be Transparent and Upfront means proactively sharing what is known, what is uncertain, what is at risk, and what has changed - as early as possible, without waiting to be asked. In the AI era, where AI-augmented work can be delivered in under an hour and new tools, functions, and capabilities are being introduced into the work environment at a pace that outstrips any individual's ability to track, transparency is not a nice-to-have. It is the mechanism that keeps fast-moving work safe, aligned, and trustworthy.
Being upfront means raising issues, blockers, risks, and changes as soon as they are known—not a week later, not after the problem has compounded, and not at the point where the only available fix is expensive, disruptive, or impossible. It means giving teams and leaders the information they need to respond quickly, when response is still cheap and options are still available.
