Connection to Value: Efficiency with Grace
By Tom Onquit
This principle is the fullest expression of the grace dimension in Efficiency with Grace. The work value explicitly states that efficiency is not achieved at the expense of dignity—and that organizations should give employees the time, support, and psychological safety to adapt, learn, and grow. Working practically means replacing outdated manual work with AI where it adds value. Working sustainably means building in the human rhythms—review time, iteration time, and rest—that allow that acceleration to continue without burnout or quality collapse. Both are required. Neither is optional.
