Why This Principle Matters: PRINCIPLE 17 - Plan and Prioritize Daily
By Tom Onquit
Traditional work planning assumed that tasks took days or weeks. Weekly stand-ups, sprint reviews, and monthly check-ins were sufficient because work moved slowly enough that priorities rarely changed overnight. That assumption no longer holds.
When AI assistance compresses delivery timelines to hours, the following risks emerge without daily planning:
Work items are completed faster than the backlog is updated—creating phantom queues that don't reflect reality Teams move on to whatever is next in a list rather than what is most important right now High-priority items get deprioritized because urgency is confused with importance Stakeholders lose visibility into what is actually in progress, done, or blocked Effort is duplicated because team members don't know what has already been completed Daily prioritization is the corrective discipline. It ensures that AI's speed advantage translates into the right work being done faster—not just more work being done faster.
